Malaysia Kitchen for the World Presents the First-Ever Food Festival Entirely Dedicated to Malaysian Noodle Dishes September 1, 2011,

New York - Malaysia Kitchen for the World, a campaign launched by the Malaysian Government through the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) to promote Malaysian cuisine and restaurants in the New York City metropolitan area, is hosting the ultimate street food celebration: the first-ever Malaysia Noodle Festival, featuring Malaysian noodle dishes by restaurants in New York City and the Tri-State area. The event takes place Tuesday, September 27 from 11:30am to 3:00pm at the Chelsea Triangle in the Meatpacking District (14th St. and 9th Ave).

In the vibrant setting of the Meatpacking District, surrounded by colorful tents, umbrellas and lanterns reminiscent of the open-air markets of Kuala Lumpur and Penang, the Malaysia Noodle Festival will showcase the astonishing variety of flavors and textures of Malaysia’s noodle dishes. From Laksa soups to stir fries such as Mee Hoon Goreng, the abundance of offerings draw upon Malaysian cuisine’s Malay, Chinese and Indian influences. Participating restaurants include such Malaysian mainstays as Fatty Crab, Laut, Nyonya, and Penang, along with celebrated Southeast Asian restaurants like Spice Market and Todd English’s Ember Room. Acclaimed New Haven Malaysian eatery Bentara will also showcase its noodle creation. All food will be on sale for $4 to $8.

The location, the Chelsea Triangle, is an outdoor plaza situated on 14th St. between 9th Ave. and Hudson St., at the tip of the trendy Meatpacking District. The plaza faces high-end fashion retail stores, restaurants, and office buildings and will be bustling with people enjoying Malaysian noodles on their lunch break.
