Mix whimsy with Mee Goreng at this Greenwich Village destination. A riot of Asian lanterns dangle from the ceiling, chairs are painted in blue, yellow and white, and – best of all – a cozy garden nestles behind the small dining room. Café Asean has been welcoming guests with Malaysian cookery since 1996. Along with Mee Goreng, a Malaysian-Indian style stir-fry of egg noodles with shrimp, tofu and bean sprouts, the menu includes another much in-demand dish, Tofu Bakar. The grilled tofu is stuffed with vegetables and served with a peanut-lime dipping sauce.
